How is today's silver rate calculated on this page?

We anchor the rate to the live market price of NSE-listed silver ETFs, which hold physical silver in India — so their price already reflects the global spot price, the USD/INR rate, import duty and the domestic premium — and add 3% GST. The per-kg rate is simply the per-gram rate × 1000.

What is the difference between 999 and 925 silver?

Accepted Answer

999 silver is 99.9% pure (fine silver), used for investment bars and coins. 925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure, alloyed for strength, and used for jewellery and cutlery.

Why is this different from the MCX or my dealer's rate?

The rate here is the domestic market benchmark — aligned with Indian silver ETF and MCX prices and inclusive of import duty and GST. A dealer adds making or minting charges and a local premium — so the price you pay for physical silver can still be somewhat higher, especially when domestic supply is tight.

Why does the silver rate differ by city?

The underlying metal price is the same nationwide. City rates (Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and others in the table above) differ mainly because of local dealer premiums and transport — treat the per-city figures as the national market benchmark, not a dealer quote.

Why is silver more volatile than gold?

Accepted Answer

Silver has a large industrial demand component (electronics, solar, EVs) on top of its use as a store of value. Because the silver market is smaller than gold's, that industrial swing makes prices move more sharply.
